ChatGPT Has Wrong Information About Your UAE Company: Find and Fix It

When ChatGPT states something false about your UAE company, you cannot edit the answer. You can confirm the facts in the official licence record, trace the page carrying the error, correct it at the source and report the answer.

A customer messages you: "ChatGPT says you only work in Abu Dhabi." Or it lists a service you stopped offering years ago, or mixes you up with a company that has a similar name. When ChatGPT has wrong information about your UAE company, you cannot open the answer and edit it. What you can do is find where the error comes from, correct the record at its source and report the answer. This guide walks through each step, with the UAE's official business records as your reference point.

Why ChatGPT has wrong information about your UAE company

ChatGPT answers in one of two ways. Sometimes it searches the web and shows links to the pages it used, and sometimes it answers without searching. OpenAI says ChatGPT decides whether to search based on what you ask. The split matters, because a searched answer shows you the pages it drew on, which gives you somewhere to start.

You can check which kind of answer you got. OpenAI's announcement of ChatGPT search explains that you can force a search by clicking the web search icon, and that searched answers include a Sources button below the response, which opens a sidebar of references.

If a wrong fact appears in an answer with no sources, there is no page to trace from that answer alone. Ask the same question again with web search turned on and compare the two. Our guide to what triggers AI brand hallucinations covers the wider causes, from name collisions with better-known brands to outdated information after a rebrand.

Step 1: Confirm the correct facts in the UAE official record

Before you correct anyone else, check what the government holds for your company. The UAE's National Economic Register lets businesses view the licence details the government has on record, and look up licences, economic activities and trade name availability. Dubai mainland companies can also search licence information and business names through Dubai Economy and Tourism.

This step settles arguments inside your own team first. If your website lists one set of services, your LinkedIn page lists another and your licence covers a third, decide which is right before asking ChatGPT or Google to agree with you.

The UAE government's business portal points to these official lookups:

  • National Economic Register: the federal register, which the portal links to at growth.gov.ae, for looking up economic licences, economic activities and trade name availability.
  • Dubai Economy and Tourism: "Search for business names" and "Search for licence information" for mainland companies.
  • Invest in Dubai: a "Check business name" search.
  • Free zone companies: the government page does not list free zone lookups, so ask the authority that issued your licence.

Pay close attention to the trade name. If ChatGPT is blending you with a similarly named business, use the name on your licence, word for word, on every page and profile you control. Google's guidance for Business Profiles makes a similar point: enter your business name exactly as it appears on your signage, stationery and branding.

Step 2: Log every wrong fact, with and without web search

Ask ChatGPT direct questions about each fact a buyer relies on, once as a normal question and once with web search forced on. Record what it said, whether sources were shown and which page carried the error. A written log turns a vague worry into a short list of specific pages to fix.

Test in a clean session so your own chat history does not shape the answers. The setup takes a minute and is explained in our Dubai AI visibility audit guide.

Fact to testExample promptWhere the correct version should live
Trade nameWhat is the full registered name of [company]?Licence record, website, every profile
Licensed activitiesWhat services does [company] offer in the UAE?Licence record, website service pages
Emirate and areaWhere is [company] based?Website contact page, Google Business Profile
Hours and contactHow do I reach [company] and when are they open?Google Business Profile, website
PricesHow much does [company] charge for [service] in AED?Your own pricing page
Still tradingIs [company] still operating?Google Business Profile, website

For every wrong answer, write down the exact wording, whether a Sources button appeared, the URLs it listed and the date. Take a screenshot too, since you may need it when you contact a publisher.

If a customer sends you a wrong answer, add it to the log and reply with the correct detail plus a link to the page on your website where it is stated. That answers the customer and tests whether your own page is clear.

Step 3: Fix the pages that carry the wrong fact

Start with the pages you control: your website, then your Google Business Profile, then any directory or article that repeats the error. Correct the fact in plain words, use the same trade name everywhere and make sure ChatGPT's search crawler can read your site, so the corrected page can appear in searched answers.

Your website. Put each fact where a reader would expect it: your name, emirate and licensed activities on the About page, location and hours on the contact page, and what you offer on service pages. Our guide to schema markup for AI answer engines covers the structured data that sits behind those pages.

Your Google Business Profile. Google lets you edit a verified profile's address, hours, contact details and photos, and some businesses must verify before they can change anything. If Google shows the wrong opening date, the owner can set the correct one. Verified profiles can also add a WhatsApp option, which is worth doing if that is how your customers reach you.

Other people's pages. When the Sources panel points to a directory listing, a news article or an old partner page, contact that publisher. Send the correct detail and offer your licence record or website as proof.

The crawler check. OpenAI's crawler documentation says sites that block OAI-SearchBot will not be shown in ChatGPT search answers. If your robots.txt blocks it, your corrected page cannot appear as a source there, however accurate it is.

Step 4: Report the wrong answer to OpenAI and Google

Report the answer as well, but do not rely on reporting alone. OpenAI lets you flag a ChatGPT response with the thumbs down button, and Google lets you report an inaccurate AI Overview. Neither help page describes a way to request a specific edit to what the AI says about your company, so treat reports as a supporting step.

In ChatGPT. Click the thumbs down under the message and follow the prompts, or use Report conversation. OpenAI's reporting page is written mainly for content that may break its Terms of Use or the law, not for business facts. It does say reported domains and other content may be reviewed by its Model Quality team, which may apply filters to help stop ChatGPT relying on unreliable sources in future answers. That makes a report most useful when your log shows the wrong fact coming from one unreliable page.

In Google AI Overviews. Click thumbs down, then Report a problem, choose the category that fits and add details in the text field. Google recommends adding those details, and notes that the feedback includes your most recent search query and its results. Use the text box to state the correct fact and where it is published.

How long corrections take, and how to check them

Neither OpenAI nor Google gives a timeline for correcting a specific fact in the help pages cited here. The one documented timing is technical: OpenAI says changes to robots.txt take about 24 hours to reach its systems. So recheck on a fixed schedule with the same prompts from your log, rather than waiting for a promised date.

Check searched answers first. The Sources panel shows whether the page you corrected is now among the references, which tells you whether your fix is being read. Keep testing the answers without search too, because your log is the only record of whether and when they change.

Be careful with correction timelines you see quoted online. Some come from a vendor's own tracking data rather than from OpenAI or Google, so treat them as estimates, not commitments.
